Step into the dojo with Intro to Karate for Kids, a one-hour class led by Sensei Wendy Cohen of MidSouth Okinawan Karate. Designed for ages 6–11, this program simulates an authentic dojo experience, beginning with a student pledge to set the mindset for respect, mindfulness, and perseverance. Students will learn the basics of blocking, punching, kicking, stances, kiais (shouting), and practical self-defense techniques.
Sensei Wendy Cohen brings over 35 years of experience in Okinawan Karate. She is a 5th Degree Blackbelt and Certified Senior Instructor in the Seibukai System of Goju Ryu Karate, as well as a 3rd Degree Blackbelt in the Ryukonkai Weapons system. With a passion for guiding students outside their comfort zones, she makes karate approachable and fun while building confidence and resilience.
The class will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 4:45–5:45 p.m. in the Storytelling Room. The fee is $20 per person, and registration is required. A waiver will need to be signed for registrants to participate.

The Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch, Jr. Library serves the Town of Collierville as an information hub offering materials and programming for all ages, three 4-person study rooms, and a 40-person meeting room. It sits in a beautiful location in Halle Park near Collierville Town Hall.
