This class is designed for adults, 65+, who either trained in karate once upon a time or always wanted to try it.
Karate for Seniors
Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 1 – 2 p.m. | Ages 65+ | $20 | Registration required
This class simulates an actual dojo class. It will begin with a student pledge, setting the mindset for students to practice patience, mindfulness, and to persevere in all pursuits. We will work on balance and weight distribution to keep steady as we learn how to block, punch, kick. Students in this class will be offered the option to stay seated while they train and learn self-defense techniques.
No prior martial arts experience is needed. Comfortable clothing and readiness to move are encouraged!
About the Presenter:
Sensei Wendy Cohen, founder of MidSouth Okinawan Karate, brings over 35 years of experience in Okinawan Karate. She is a 5th Degree Blackbelt and Certified Senior Instructor in the Seibukai System of Goju Ryu Karate, as well as a 3rd Degree Blackbelt in the Ryukonkai Weapons System. Sensei Wendy specializes in practical self-defense, helping students discover their inner strength while learning in a welcoming, supportive environment.
Please register beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, November 22, two weeks before the program.

The Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch, Jr. Library serves the Town of Collierville as an information hub offering materials and programming for all ages, three 4-person study rooms, and a 40-person meeting room. It sits in a beautiful location in Halle Park near Collierville Town Hall.
