Improvisational Painting

Halle Meeting RoomJoin our Artist of the Month, Jerry Wilson for a creative, music-inspired art experience.
Participants will listen to selections of improvisational jazz music while exploring how rhythm, melody, and sound can be interpreted visually through sketching and abstract painting. The class will include guided discussion, creative experimentation, and time to paint while listening to two different songs on repeat. Participants will leave with their own music-inspired abstract artwork, along with sketches that reflect their creative response to the sounds and rhythms of jazz. Registration required. For ages 16 and up.
About the Presenter
Jerry Wilson is an experienced artist and educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience as a middle school art teacher. He holds a BFA in Sculpture and Art History, an MFA in Art Education K–12 from the University of Memphis, and an MCA from Memphis College of Art. Jerry also served as Director of the MSCC Art Camp summer program from 2005 to 2020. In addition to teaching, he continues to create and explore his own artwork.

The Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch, Jr. Library serves the Town of Collierville as an information hub offering materials and programming for all ages, three 4-person study rooms, and a 40-person meeting room. It sits in a beautiful location in Halle Park near Collierville Town Hall.
