Storytelling RoomLearn to recognize the early signs of dyslexia and how to respond effectively. Sheri James will discuss red flags, supportive strategies, and comprehensive reading instruction. Registration required.
Learn how to recognize and respond to the early signs of dyslexia in this informative session with Sheri James. With dyslexia affecting up to 20% of the population, understanding its characteristics and knowing how to respond can help parents and educators better support struggling readers.
This program will explore what dyslexia is—and what it isn't—including common red flags that may appear as early as infancy and what steps to take when concerns arise. Participants will also learn about the key elements of a strong, comprehensive reading program and strategies for supporting children with dyslexia.
Early literacy skills begin developing long before children enter kindergarten. This program complements the Library's early literacy efforts, including 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, by helping families and educators better understand the development of reading skills and recognize potential challenges early.
Join us on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. in the Storytelling Room. Registration is required.
